I started my raranga journey February of 2023. My goal being to one day weave an authentic traditional korowai for each of my girls. To leave something behind for them, full of my love, made by my own hands.

A huge goal set, with zero knowledge and no immediate whānau to show me the way, I was inspired by my beautiful cousin Krystal and her raranga journey through the Hetet School of Māori Art.

I took the plunge, committed to a minimum of one year to see how it felt and now I am here. My whare filled with harakeke and taonga that I have made.

Each time I weave I think of ōku tūpuna. Wondering which of my ancestors was the last to weave? Hurting inside that the skills were taken away from our whānau. Determined to normalise raranga and whatu in our whare once again. Striving to make the next piece better than the last.

Whilst I gift a lot of my weaving away, I do sometimes sell my mahi. My family and friends will always have the first chance to purchase any of my weaving that I put up for sale.

I'm only one person and a wife and a māmā and I work full time. Unfortunately, no commissions e te whānau, I let the harvest determine the size and the lessons determine the outcome.
